“Dirty Birds” by Morgan Murray

“Dirty Birds” by Morgan Murray

Just another white-guy who wrote another book about another white-guy Growing up on a farm in a small central-Albertan village, Murray describes himself as “just a nobody from nowhere.” He has studied in many different corners of the world, such as Calgary, Prague, Montreal, Paris, and St. John’s. Murray now lives in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with his wife Kate Beaton, a canadian cartoonist who sketched the cover art for Dirty Birds in a waiting room while pregnant with their daughter Mary, who entered their lives while Murray was in the middle of writing his book. The cover page follows…

What Lies Below

What Lies Below

"Get the Captain over here right now. What even is that?"  Rory peered at the display screen. When the sonar-men had first called him in to take a look at the sonar map, he had expected something interesting. He had been excited, even- he and his crew would be rewarded nicely for finding something like an ancient shipwreck or some kind of underwater volcano. But that was not an inanimate historical site, nor was it a newfound natural wonder. That was big, and it was moving.  Captain Reyes was at the sonar-shack in an instant- not that this was anything…

Hobbies to Try as a Student

Hobbies to Try as a Student

What I do during my breaks So, you find yourself scrolling for hours on Instagram and every other media platform available at your fingertips (in my opinion, these should be harder to access, they are a curse!), and you wish to study, but your brain won’t make it possible for you! How convenient would it be if we were to have enough energy and motivation at all times to do exactly what we feel like we need to do?  Here I come with another list format of things I recommend, but this time, I am not recommending how to spend…

Unfortunately, mixed with a lack of judgement, it can become fatal to anybody. This is what happened to a group of nine Russian hikers in 1959. Context The leader of the expedition group was Igor Dyatlov. He was a radio engineering student at the Ural Polytechnical Institute, and he was 23 years old at the time of the accident. His group was composed of eight men and two women who were all…

Cyrus’ Trip to a Strange London

Cyrus’ Trip to a Strange London

Cyrus Darkmore came to London to find her, and this small man keeps telling him something about a stupid number. "Sir, if you want to contact her, I need a number," he explains, holding a newspaper dated from yesterday, May 1st, 2000. "How dare you speak of her like she's just a number? She has a name, Sierra." Anger shows in his tone, but he pronounces "Sierra" as if the name reminds him of both sorrow and love. The man behind the counter looks startled. "I'm sorry, sir, but I need more than a name. And I meant her telephone…

According to Conca James, an environmental scientist, around 10% of the world’s carbon emissions were produced by the fashion industry. So, how can our clothes pollute so much and why are companies not being held accountable for their harmful decisions?  What is Fast Fashion? The fast-fashion model that we know today appeared…

The Wizarding World of a Beef-Based Band

The Wizarding World of a Beef-Based Band

Dear readers, as you may or may not know, we have musicians among us! Lucky me, I had the opportunity to personally interview and discuss with two young artists; Derek Lee Dagenais and Landon Ra Dagenais, members of the music band Ti Boeuf. Both being dedicated students, you may have already seen them around at St. Lawrence! While discussing with the Dagenais brothers about their new single release “Vélo,” they also taught me so much about their world of music and content production-- I am telling you, these guys are insane! As a matter of fact, Ti Boeuf is a…
