10 fun (and less fun) things to do during reading week

  1. Go skating

If the temperature allows it, the province of Québec has many different outdoor rinks which are always fun to discover! Here are five suggestions near Québec City:

Parc de la Jacques Cartier

Domaine de la forêt perdue

Quai Paquet

Anneau de glace du Lac Beauport

Lac St-Augustin

  1. Watch a bunch of movies

Reading week is a perfect time to watch movies, and what better way to watch movies than to watch them among friends? Cégep Champlain St-Lawrence offers a PCCQ (Prix collégial du cinéma québécois) activity, where you get to watch amazing movies from 2023 and discuss them with your friends! To participate, send a Mio to Suzanne Lemay.

  1. Do your taxes!

When are you going to have the time? Certainly not in the second half of the semester… Here are some resources:

Good luck!

  1. Evasion Games

Grab your friends, grab your detective talents, and go test how long your friendships can last when put under stressful situations. It’s going to be very amusing, I promise! At Défi-Évasion, there is a multitude of escape-like games that you can play in groups of up to seven people. Who knows, maybe your team will smash the speed record??

  1. Throw some axes

What better time than reading week to get your anger out? Well, we have THE activity for you to do: axe throwing. You can do that at Tomahawk Québec for the little sum of 23$. I personally tried axe throwing and I had a blast! In addition, you can even reserve a raging room to get all the stress from the first half of the semester out!

  1. Go to the theater

It is always nice to disconnect from the world of screens we live in, so what better way to do that than to go to the theater? Get some loved ones, go to dinner, and then go watch a play! Here are five plays taking place in Québec City during Spring break, have fun!

S’aimer Ben Paquetée

Orgueils et Préjugés

Dimanche à Sodome

Le misanthrope

Jusqu’à brûler les boiseries

  1. Try some pottery

Want to try something new? Something fun, relaxing, out of the ordinary? Something that will get your hands going and your mind quieted? Then pottery is definitely right for you. At Poterie Terre et Biscuit, you can learn the basics of pottery in a couple of hours, depending on which class you wish to take.

  1. Bake some stuff

The main reason for this is that food is always good and comforting. And if you want to take this to a new level, you can always organize a friendly cooking competition among friends and family; it could turn into memories for a lifetime!

  1. Run (or walk) a marathon

No pressure, just running. Bring your friends, good vibes only! What’s stopping you?

  1. Try fat biking

Over the recent years, fat biking has become very popular amongst the outdoor community here in the province of Québec. But buying a whole fat bike is a little expensive, which is why many outdoor places, some of which are listed below, offer fat bike trials of a couple of hours for beginners who would like to bike on snow. It may be a little hard at the beginning, but lots of fun is guaranteed!
