The Road to Ruin

“The Earth is littered with the ruins of empires that believed they were eternal.”

Camille Pagila

Rome wasn’t built in a day,

But it burnt in one, so they say.

Yet echoes of life and death surround us.
The hubris of every human is to think we are eternal,

But billions of years have passed before our birth

And billions more will pass once our Earth

Is swallowed by the sun.

Do not weep for our brevity,

Rejoice in the freedom it gives us.
This freedom injected in our veins the sins we carried,

Maybe the fallen birds from the sky, the heaven are us and this is hell.

All the roads, no matter how mighty we might feel, end in ashes.
Hope to rise from them like a phoenix.

Pray to God they’ll beat Goliath.
You were no seer nor no prophet.

Now all you were has become forfeit.
