Welcome to the first edition of What’s Happening at SLC! This edition will present the events from September 7th to September 18th.
In these articles, you will find a calendar of all the events that will happen in the school. Each article will span over two weeks. They will also contain a short summary of each event.

September 7th:
Start of SLCSA Electoral Campaigns
- If you are a first-year student and want to get involved in the student life at St. Lawrence, there are 4 positions that you can run for in the upcoming elections: Vice-President, Assistant Internal Officer, Assistant Social Officer, and Secretary General. This is your chance to use your voice to better the St. Law experience! For more information regarding the available positions, we invite you to take a look at the attached document in the MIO sent by the SLCSA or send them a MIO if you have any questions. You can then sign up through the following google form link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc3FvwrcAORJhT9GI18rUKZmwHdnQFIbpLMXa4BshlfEW7w3w/viewform?usp=header. The campaigns can officially start on September 7th.
September 8th:
Early Birds Wake-up Walks (7h45-8h15 – Pathfinders)
- The Early Birds Wake-up Walks are there! Feel like you need a bit of balance and would like to get the day off to a good start? Fresh air, exercise and social interaction is a great way! Join Emma at the Pathfinder desk at 7h45 on Tuesday mornings starting September 1st for a 30 minute nature walk before class. Beading Circle (12h30-1h45 – Room 336)
- Interested in learning the basics of beading or simply looking for a creative way to take a break and connect with others? Participate in a beading workshop and learn a traditional Indigenous craft! No previous experience is needed; beginners are welcome! Some workshops will have a guided project, while others will be drop-in sessions where you can work at your own pace. Open to all students and staff. Bring your lunch! September 10th:
Suicide Prevention Day
- September 10th is the international suicide prevention day. As of now, there are no activities or presentations planned. However, stay tuned and watch the TVs and your Omnivox in case something gets organized.
September 15th:
Nurse on Campus (8h30-16h15)
- The school nurse, Eloisa Babaran will be in person from 8:30 am to 4:15 pm in room 153. All services are free and confidential to St. Lawrence students.To make an appointment, send an email to eloisa.babaran.ciussscn@ssss.gouv.qc.ca.
SLCSA Electoral Speeches (12h30-14h – Atrium)
- The electoral speeches will be held during the common lunch (12h30 to 14h) on Tuesday September 15 in the Atrium. If you are a first year, you have until then to submit your candidacy and campaign if you wish to run for one of the available posts. Voting will happen right after the speeches so make sure to attend. If you do come, there will be some food waiting for you!
R-Score FAQ (13h – Room 346)
- Confused by the R-score? Join our Guidance Counselor on September 15th at 1 pm in room 346 for a quick 30-minute overview of how it works, what influences it, and what first-year students should know. The presentation will be followed by an informal Q&A so bring your questions.
September 17th
University Admission to Competitive Health Sciences Programs (13h – Room 346)
- Thinking about applying to a health science program? Join our Guidance Counselor on Thursday, September 17th at 1 pm in room 346 for a quick overview of admission requirements, timelines, and available resources. Whether you’re applying this year or simply exploring your options, you’re welcome to attend!
September 18th
Last Day for Official Course Withdrawal DE
- Last day to officially withdraw from your classes so that no remark will appear on your transcript.
SLCSA Frat Party (22h – Pub Universitaire)
- The time we’ve all been waiting for has officially arrived… The first SLCSA event is OUT! On Friday September 18th, at 22h at the Pub Universitaire, get your best frat fits ready and don’t forget to practice your frat flicks for a night none of us will forget. To participate, you must be 18 years old or older and you must pay the entry fee of about $10. Don’t forget your ID! The next issue’s theme will be Pop Music! Do you like listening to music? Are you interested in knowing more about this form of art? Well this issue will be for you! We want to cover icons of pop music, as well as its history and much more. From Dolly Parton (may she rest in peace) to Sabrina Carpenter, from Micheal Jackson to Bad Bunny, we will try to cover as much of this genre as we can.
We will also be accepting student submissions and suggestions for the next issue until September 17th. You may write or suggest anything you want. It does not have to follow the next issue’s theme, although following the theme would be greatly appreciated. If you want to write something on theme for this issue, but don’t have any ideas about what to write, we may have some ideas for you. Just contact us and we will answer you as soon as possible.
The next issue will come out on Monday in two weeks. So just “remember, the 21st night of September”!
